Black with silver neck ribbon. German?

    Greetings!

I picked up a small lot German items recently and among them was this black and silver neck ribbon. It shows signs of having had a decoration hanging in the middle and there is a pin or thread hole at each end. The piece measures 2 1/2" x 15 1/2".

I did some preliminary 'net searching and couldn't find any neck ribbons that matched it, though I did discover the color pattern is like a 1914 Iron Cross.

I don't know anything about awards so I'm wondering whether anyone can tell me what it is. German? WW1? WW2?

    Thanks!

That is a ribbon for a PLM. These are heavily reproduced. The postwar versions that accompanied S&L PLMs in the 60s and 70s were very good, in 100% cotton thread, etc.

If you can get a photo like this, we can tell you if it's a period piece:

Don't give me heart attack!! If it is legit I'll be obsessed with tracking down the flea market seller to see if I can find where the decoration is.

Thanks for the response, Tom. I never thought to look at Blue Max ribbons when I started but right now I'm searching for original examples to compare.

All the other items look OK to my completely untrained eye. I'll try to get the EK1 and Mother's Cross up for review soon.

            Thanks!

I can see the image now. I can say for sure that there is no silver thread like on the one you posted. I'll get a better photo up tomorrow night.

That might not be a problem. The one I posted is one of two or three known postwar types. I just meant to show the type of image that would be helpful.

This should be down in the Imperial section btw.

My apologies, Don. I never imagined that it might be an Imperial piece. At least I guessed right on it being German.

Thanks for all of your patience. I took some more pictures today. I'm using an ancient digital camera (Sony FD Mavica) so I hope they're good enough.

That's good enough to count threads.

Should I repost the photos in the Imperial section or can the mods move the thread?

To be honest the photos might not be quite good enough. It's hard to see exactly what's going on in the silver band, at least for me.

But anyway, the thread should be moved or the photos re-posted, for sure.

Have you done a burn test on the threads?
                              Best regards,
