Hi Daniel, it's tough to be "in to" the commander's cross. I've only seen 2 real ones, ever (other than books) I here there's a Grand-Cross coming up in Ziege's auction. If it's a real one, that will be fun to see! Will try to post more soon.Comment

I´ve seen 3 or 4 real ones the last 10 years but with prices to 25.000 buck quite expensive for our small wallets.

Is that Gold one rare?
I only ask because I had eight...um, no...nineteen....oh, no, I remember, I had thirty-seven of them ! They were brought back by the same veteran I referred to previously who had "liberated" that building that had a sign on it that read something like "Der Warehausen die St. Heinrich Orden". Gosh, I only wish I had known before that unfortunate "Diane" episode. Did I mention that they were all cased? Yep, each and every one of 'em in genuine Moroccan leather cases.
I actually traded them for, ah...A World War II Soviet Order of Victory. Sure, now I remember, I met an elderly Russian emigre, and he had been the personal military valet of Marshall Zhukov...um, no wait...of STALIN ! Yes, he was Stalin's personal military valet, and Stalin gave him one of his own Orders of Victory for all of his fine service in laying out the Generalissimo's uniforms through the war. It is magnificent, all platinum and rubies and other sparkly thing-type adornements, complete with a handwritten note from Zhukov...um, I mean STALIN, that roughly translated reads "For my valet, Boris...one of my personal, and not a copy, Orders of Victory, which belonged to me, Josef Stalin, and was my very own, that I awarded to myself (and who deserved it more?), and which I give to you now in appreciation for keeping all of those pants with the nice creases and the boots shiny and other good things."
I was going to offer it to Rick Lundstrom, but then we had that terribly dissapointing demonstration of ballot tampering, and, well..........Comment

The "R" Mark
On a Saxon decoration, 99.9% probability that "R" is for Roesner. On a Prussian Decoration, I would suspect Rosenthal, over Roesner (Berlin house jeweler, ca. 1860's forward). If found with a Saxon, or Saxon Duchy group, then this would change. Too bad there's never anything truly definitive, huh!

Right stogie, the medal is marked "FU" for Friedrich Ulbricht, Dresden.
"Polierte Platte" is a stamping technique for coins (and medals) were the portrait and insciption of a medal/coin remains frosted and the rest shiny.Last edited by JensF.; 08-12-2002, 04:33 PM.Comment
