    Brunswick merit cross 2. class

Please share your thoughts on the war merit cross below, thanks.

Have searched the forum and have reservations myself. Eg on the obverse the leaves should have saw tooth shapes, the EA font is too thick and the A should have a more Eifel Tower like shape.

On the reverse the dot over the "i"'s is square and not round and the e's in Kriege should look equal. Maybe it's the photo but to me it looks like they ran out of space and squezed the last e in

Here's what it should look like imo.

The pics are from a dealer but at this point I'd prefer not to post the whole bar.

You have raised valid points with this Frank. I often think about ways to identify the many Brunswick and Oldenburg fakes out there. Normally the overall softness of the crown and dates are a give away. I find it very interesting to note the squashed in "e" as you have highlighted.

I have always looked at the detail and the small ring on these to ascertain originality but your images will get me checking my own Brunswick's later today.

Thanks Jesse! I bought the bar and then started to wonder about the Brunswick.

It would have been a better idea doing it the other way round but have been able to cancel the deal, so no problem.

Given that there is more than 1 maker of KVK1s, I don't see why there would not be more than one maker of KVK2s. As such, this could so far being a case of pointing out the differences between examples from different makers. Unless the medal bar itself is somehow suspect, I would not call the KVK2 in question a fake based on the pics shown.

Evaluate the item, not the story and not the seller's reputation!

If you PM/contact me without the courtesy of using your first name, please don't be offended if I politely ignore you!

Mike, I for one is not calling the cross in question for a fake, just trying to evaluate the item

Been through the forum and the net and all 2'nd class looked like the second cross that I've posted. This made me wonder and ask for opinions from the more experienced collectors here.

I knew someone would point this out. I concur.
