    EKI Meybauer?, opinions please...

I just received this EKI and wanted to ask the members if this is indeed a Meybauer...? The pin certainly looks like a Meybauer product, but wanted to be sure...all opinions welcome.

I assumed it to be a Meybauer because of another cross I own with the Meybauer logo stamped on the reverse with the same pin design. This one has a tombak pin...

it certainly looks like a maybauer fore what I know of the frame and pin system.

              Thank you Kay,

The photo below is the obverse of the tombak-pinned and marked Meybauer. It has a different crown than the Meybauer above with the nickel pin, and the middle of the 'W' is slanted slightly. Which is the true Meybauer core? Are both? Here it is for comparison...

The cross with the nickel pin looks like it has a Godet core...?

Yes, it's a Meybauer I believe the ones stamped 938 were among the latest Meybauer made before WWII, but I'm not really sure. They used a lot of different silver purities over the many years they made 1914 EKs.
                Best regards,

Neither. Or maybe both. Both cores you mention (and Meybauer used at least one other) are generic. The "Godet core," which may or may not have actually been made by Godet, and the "slant-W" core were both used widely by many different makers, including Meybauer.

                      Thank you again Trevor,

It is very interesting, and oftentimes very confusing, trying to make sense out of the many Imperial makers and the components they used. But, I like it.

In my opinion the available evidence permits the conclusion that most makers bought their cores from a smaller handful of suppliers. These suppliers may well have been makers of the Iron Cross themselves (e.g., Godet). A small group of makers also manufactured their own cores for their own exclusive use, or at least their EKs used proprietary cores: KMST comes to mind, also MFH. I'm sure other members here can name more.
                        Best regards,

Here are three EKI's and one EKII, all Meybauers. The only difference I see is in the third cross, the core. All frames are the same. The date sits a little high on the first cross, maybe.

                            Hy trevor ..
what I read here is what the common believes are(no problem fore me )
so far I know,,, there are only strong indication towards those common believes.
Also it is the most popular option if it comes to explaining the producing questions .

But I do have some more options and indications that may be interesting to look in to to ,,especially fore you're own research on godet and AWS

                            I found evidence so far
that silver forks, knives and spoons could be pre ordered in specialised metal pressing firms.
( advertisement in jeweller orientated Books are mentioning that option )

                            also there's evidence .
that it was common practice you could chose out of two options as buyer of pre produced products .( half products )
a buyer could have his own moulds not to be used by any other .
or they could buy standard products.
( steinhauer & lück /Deumer worked like that and mentioned the rules fore that in they're 1926/1929 catalogue )
a catalogue specially meant only for pre ordering.

I would not be surprised,,( I am convinced already fore years to be honest )
if not only Iron cores,, but even the frames could be pre-ordered at specialized firms.
and that ordering half products became common practice the farther you go in to the 1930's production time of Iron crosses .

this is meant as a friendly exchange of research results,
and I hope it comes across as such.

                            regards kay [/CENTER]
