PLM holder identification?

Anyone have an idea of the when & where? Especially who? Nothing is writen on the back, no post marks either...

Staff Officer (Maj to Col), plm, EK1, one more ribbon in the buttonhole. Thats too thin for me.

A collector suggested Rupprecht Kronprinz von Bayern?

The soldiers about look awful comfortable in such presence imo, and when Rupprecht Kronprinz von Bayern won his PLM he was a General (1916?)... so if this fellow is a Major or Colonel I guess that leaves him out?

Thought I would see if someone had any ideas... I understand a single picture with little else to go one is weak, but worth a shot as I have seen some incredible identifications come out he on weaker pictures!

I can up the resolution on the overview but those file sizes get BIG... if it would help let me know.

The sign above his head reads something like:

?ts.Gef.Std.G.v.S.

Even with high resolution it is difficult to discern, the first few letters are obscured by the angle of the picture & the wall.

Not sure if that would help or not? I looked at period images of Rupprecht Kronprinz von Bayern and though there is a resemblance I doubt it is him, not quite the same face imo...

one thing is certain - he is not Kronprinz Rupprecht. The sign probably says Rgts.Gef.Std. - Regimental Headquarters. It may be helpful to see an image of the sign.

Looks like Rgts.Gef.Std. G.v.S. to me. No more clues for the time being, though.

If G.v.S. refers to the officer shown and he is a major or colonel, possible candidates and their award dates might be:

Oberst Friedrich Graf von der Schulenburg, April 1917
Oberst Karl Graf von der Schulenburg-Wolfsburg, October 1917
Oberst Detlef Graf von Schwerin, June 1918
Major Albrecht Graf von Stosch, October 1918
