    WW1 shoulder straps.

I have four shoulder straps. All different. Was wondering if anyone could help with info or how to research them. Is the number the regiment?

    Robbie,

You may have two patterns here. Due to the widths, it's difficult to tell, especially since some of them are cut off on the bottom.

IR.457 was formed in Nov. 1916. It spent most of it's time in the war with the 236.Inf.Div.

IR.52 - This could be one of several infantry units with the number 52. For simplicity's sake, I'm calling it IR.52. Nominally part of the 5.Inf.Division, it was parted out continually during the war.

IR.372 formed on Aug. 2, 1915. Was part of the 10.Landwehr Division for most of the war.

RIR.10. Once again, this could be a number of units. Spent most of it's time in the 11.Res.Divison.

If you want further information regarding the actions the various divisions were involved in, I suggest you download the "Histories of 251 German Divisions in the War". Based on allied intelligence, it gives (for the most part) a good overview of what these units were doing year by year. It's free to download on the Internet.
