My money would be Boer republic (Transvaal State Artillery) or one of the UK colonial units in South Africa circa 1900

Paul I believe you are correct-Came to me with a Group of Imperial German CDV's so I assumed it was German. However,after closer inspection I see it has a developers mark from Hexham in the UK.
