For me, its not so much about the paint as it is the patina or lack of it.Also the very clean back with sanding marks still visible. It just does not have the look of being 70 years old.

It is most probably OK. It just looks cheap or fake or something ??

I hear what you are saying but not all pieces develop patina, it depends on how the item was stored/used. I have pieces that look like they were made yesterday.

        Hi All,

Nothing wrong with this one - looks like a perfectly okay 1930's produced one piece EK1.
I don't know why, but for some reason a hell of a lot of EK1s produced during this period have stayed looking like new and display a decided lack of patina - probably because they were purchased and only worn once or twice then stored away carefully. Given the right conditions, there is a good chance the EK will stay looking near new.

That the black is up the arms a bit is no problem on these 1 piece EKs - of course they were painted after construction! Geez, it's one piece!

I purchased a 30's made EK1 from Detlev a few years ago and was surprised at just how new it looked which worried me until a friend showed me his one piece screwback version from the same era with an even newer appearance (the pebbled appearance of the core seems to be quite common with these) and his was purchased new by his grandfather in the mid 1930's!
I'll have to get in contact with him to see how it is constructed - possibly the same as this one.
