    Another Spanish Fake PLM

    Incredible! This auction website

    http://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/6648988

is selling what is unmistakably a Spanish fake. Bidding starts at $1,100 their "valuation" is $2300-$3300.

Hard to believe there are still people who would fall for this

Worse yet, it would appear to have sold, though you have to have an account and log in to see what the sale price was. It is unfortunately an impressive fake in many respects, but a little homework (and a visit to WAF!) is all that is needed to not make a big mistake with these.

I am a member there and the price says "N/A," so either it was pulled or the price is hidden for some reason.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if it sold as an original though. The quality on these fakes, as well as the Dead Eye fakes, is very good. I think there are a lot of collectors who are a bit older, and who are totally offline and without access to the kind of information that you really need to understand and identify these high-end fakes.

These Spanish fakes and the Dead Eye fakes traded for decades as originals, as this old auction catalogue from Thies attests (the German text reads, basically: "Excellent copy, which was sold for many years as an original.")

Maybe during those many years they were right about those...

I'm not so sure the "Spanish Fakes" have traded for decades, either, unless you have some evidence to the contrary, Trevor. They would seem to have been around since 2000, but can anyone document one from earlier than that?
