    1870 period picture research

    I have being looking fore this quality picture fore a long time .
    its the full house of pictures to find .

    fore the imperial guy's its a

    wideframe ek2 1870/1895/1900
    clear detailing of the core
    most likely frosting visible ,,,
    ribbon details of the outer stitching .

    I would say AWS wide frame ,,, ( 1900 )
    pressed core ?

    (fore the ww2 guy's it would be the AWS junker (schinkel) frame if I read it correctly )
    Streptile would have more answers to that

          Very nice one.

          It's interesting that he wears his EK in full size, but (higher) orders as mini chain only. Perhaps b/c EK was earned in war and RAO & KO are for peacetime merit?

            seen that on more pictures ,,regularly.

            also with full size bars ,,,,,the ek in the button hole .

            even non military related bars in combination with a ek1 and no sign of the ek2 or ribbon .

            I think there was no hard restrictions , to how to place them .

            regards kay

                      That is a great picture Kay.

                      This is truly the way we validate a type of core or oaks with no debate whatsoever.

                      There are plenty more photos out there like this I'm sure and in some ways they are even better than a period catalogue. We can learn a lot more from researching these period photos than we can speculating and using our own personal opinions.

                      Well done. Keep it up.

                          On the chain I see :

                          Kronen order;
                          Roter Adler Orden;

                          then two medals possible 1870-71 KDM and???

                          Does anyone know what the two medals are?

                          Best regards,

                            No problem... when you're ready to sell it, you have my email

                            Here is the type of cross he is wearing: an AWS with the double-loop backed oakleaves. Also the image from the AWS catalogue 1908.

                              My guess is the last one is the 1897 Centenary medal.
