    Otto Weddigen

Can someone provide with a listing of the decorations awarded to U-boot Commander Otto Weddigen? I know he had the PLM, EK1, EK2 anything else?

Add one Bavarian Max-Joseph that I know of...

Saxon St Henry Order-Knight 28.9.14 and

Bavarian Military Max Joseph Order-Knight 11.10.14

Since he was no Bavarian native he was not ennobled as Ritter v.Weddigen. Anyway the St.Henry is quite common even for non-Saxons, but the BMJ3 is a real hitz.

      Best regards

      Daniel

Thanks for the replys. Did he receive the Hohenzollern House Order Knights cross as was customary prior to the PLM or was he skipped like Rommel as an example?

He must have been well respected during the Third Reich Era. I once had a Thrid Reich Era street sign with his name. Wish I still had it.

Weddigen did not receive a Hohenzollern. From 1917 it was common, after the EK´s to award the HOH3X and then the plm. Weddigen got the plm quite early as the Hohenzollern was still a quite rare award.

            Best regards

                  Willisen and Hoffman

                  All,

Does anyone know what awards two of the other non-Bavarian BMJ3 recipients, Maj Ludwig Wilhelm Freiherr von Willisen and Obst Max Hoffman received in addition to their BMJ3 and PlM? Thanks in advance.

Just reading this thread..I went to school in Bern, Switzerland. My best mate and buddy lived next door in the neighbours house. His name was, and still is, Tristan Weddigen, Otto Weddigens great grandson!! Back then, all I knew OW was a famous WW1 person.. and that was it. About two years ago I asked my then buddy's father what he thinks about his granpa... well, his answer was short: Nothing.. quit sad actually..

Thats interesting. Weddigen was married, but for a short time (Aug 1914 - MArch 1915) and not home much because of the war. He could have only had maximum one child (multiple births being an exception).
