    Imperial hat device, maybe?

I had considered titleing this thread 'What is it?' It is my thinking that this is some sort of hat device.

Questions: What is it? Any value?

    Thanks in advance!

I think it's for a Hussar's busby. But I don't know if it is authentic or not... I'm surprised no headgear collectors have replied.

What are the dimensions? The size of the prongs leads me to think that the item is relatively small compared to that of a busby skull.

But then again, I ain't no skull aficionado a la R. Lumsden.

Here is the skull with a Luft buckle so that you can get a rough idea on size.

I'm thinking it might also be for a pouch or other piece of equipment like that. Just a guess though. Looks pretty neat.

Hi Calvin, I was looking at this link only last night.

              http://meltingpot.fortunecity.com/utah/894/fakes.htm

The skull is smaller than that from a busby I think? The one you show looks different to the repro so it might be good.

              Cheers, Ade.

The detail is consistent with a full size Totenkopf, as are the tabs, which would lead me to believe it's from a child's busby.

I didn't think of that. Those certainly have to be rare. You were never to young to start playing the role of soldier back then
