    Hi,

Looks like one of the strange/atypical KOs with the really chunky hinge and BIG diameter catch. I'm uncertain if these are repros, "parts" crosses or just really ugly genuine variations. The case is Third Reich period.

thanks for your reply. To bad that the case is from the wrong era How can You tell that the case is from the era of the Third reich?

        Hi,

The case has a pressed cardboard insert with raised D&B maker's mark - definitely Third Reich imo. The push-button has a circular "guide", which is a common on Third Reich cases. The white silk lined also appears to be more in line with Third Reich cases. There is always the possibility that it's an Imperial case with a replaced Third Reich lower insert, but in this instance I personally don't think so.

Thanks Mike, always good to learn something new. What should I look for in order to have an authentic case from WW1?

            Hi,

No easy way to answer that as there are a lot of variations. Many different decals, different coloured inserts, etc were used. A lot of imperial EK1 cases did use wooden based inserts though. A good start would be to search this forum (eg advanded search, Imperial Militiaria Forum only, "case" or "EK1 case", etc) for old threads which show EK1 cases.
