    WW1 German Compass ?

    Hi Gents

    Please can someone tell me what I have here . Is this a WW1 German Compass ?

      It certainly predates WWII. I would guess WWI era and civilian made but certainly possible that it is military used especially with the belt pouch and loops.

        Could be an old instrument for surveying contacted a colleague I'll post here if I hear anything.
        The firm Sprenger made a similar instrument W2 even the pouch looks alike. I got interested in this gear about 2yrs ago so I'm not an expert...just like it.

          It appears to be what we called a surveying compass or what we call a "pocket Transit". Now everything is GPS related.

            I got a reply:

            "the case with the lateral vanes is identical to SPRENGER (and the later STOPPANI)
            The double needle in fluid with the barometer expension capsule is unique though
            I saw expension capsules only on two other ones: a small MERIDIAN and a WWII German one
            of an unknown maker"

            It appears to be a special piece please contact the curator of Compassipedia Mr Jean-Patrick Donzey I believe they would like to add the photos to their data base.
