Expensive Mistake?

When I was a lot younger (circa 1997-ish) I had the opportunity to purchase an 1813 and 1870 EKII. Now remember: this was long before there was any real quality sources of information on the internet, so I relied on the opinion of a dealer I trusted.

I kept the crosses for only a short time before selling them to fund my university studies.

I recently found some pictures I had taken and I would like some second opinions of the crosses.

I think I was very lucky to get back what I paid for them when they were sold

What do you think? Did I avoid an expensive mistake?

What amount of money did fund your studies?

The 1813 is a reworked 1914 and the 1870 is an accepted Jubilee (at least the cross).

Thanks for the opinions guys - it confirmed what I thought about the 1813.

I paid $1600 NZD and $800 NZD respectively. I worked almost a whole summer (7 days a week selling paint and hammers) to buy them. I remember I talked the dealer down from $1800 to $1600 for the 1813. I remember thinking I was an expert negotiator

The 1813 is a reworked 1914 and the 1870 is an accepted Jubilee (at least the cross).

When I found the pictures a few days ago I spotted the reworked 1914 right away. I felt a little sick when I saw it and realised that as an 18 year old I had almost lost a fortune

Tell me about the 1870. I have never seen this variation and searching the forum today I couldn't find a matched example.

how lucky I was as I started ,,internet was already advanced in information .

I could study 24 our a day ,,,still 3 time's I made a mistake ,,,lucky to get my money back in all cases .

I agree with Michel. 1813 a total fake, 1870 a nice Jubilee type.
