WW1 EK2 questions

Godd morning everyone.
I finally got around to making some pictures of the first WW1 EK2 I ever bought.
The ribbon is reproduction,and I bought it as such..
I have a question about the way the suspension ring is mounted.I've yet to see another one like it,and I've been looking for the past 3 years.
Is it a repair job?
Cross itself is 3 piece construction and magnetic.
I hope the pictures are sufficient.
Any thoughts?

IMO, vote goes to a rather crude repair on very worn KO. It looks to have had a hard life, not all in the hands of the veteran or a collector.

Well,I bought it at an auto parts swap meet,if that answers your statements!

Very well could have been used and abused by a biker or a hot rodder,in my opinion..

Come to think of it,I did buy a chromed WW2 German helmet at the same swap meet,and I cannot remember, for certain,but Ill assume I got the helmet from the same guy,so it all seems to fit.
