How many KO variations are there? I know people talk about cast core vs Stamped core but actual physically different designs - how many? I read somewhere that KO had been identifed as being from K&Q. Is that a fact or hearsay?

I've never counted the KO variants but there are at least two frames and a handful of cores, one of which is cast iron and the rest of which are stamped low-relief steel.

KO being K&Q is neither fact not hearsay but rather a theory that's not yet been proven beyond a doubt. However, I think the evidence is compelling enough to consider it a fact for myself, personally. There's a short chapter about it in Wernitz -- too much info to reproduce here.

I think I know of 4 different cores.

These photos are about 4 months old now but shows 7 cores, since then I have found 2 more. All are "KO" marked with both types of mark.

Interesting! Is the same number of cores seen in the KO EK1 too?
