    A dodgy medal bar?

    Hi folks,

I bought this on Ebay at a reasonable price from a known dealer. Safe Lol.

Of course it can be hard to see the little details online, at home and in hand the balance changes.

Anyhow I found this ribbon beneath the other two.

I've had an issue with a probably dodgy helmet connected to this dealer--- he recently sold it as untouched on ebay. Then the other week I pointed out that he was selling a known fake Turkish belt buckle on Ebay, he then took it down.
Anyhow, should I be concerned about this? The ribbon is green, yellow and then black. In hand it was very easy to spot... Blind Freddy couldn't miss it.

    Cheers,

    Jamie

I dont think you need to be too concerned. That ribbon is being used as padding for under the ribbons that actually show on the front for the medals. Most medal bars have these. In fact, thrifty tailors would often get these scraps of ribbon by using the remains of previous medal bars that had been brought to them to enlarge.

What would concern me rather than that ribbon is the fact that the seller has sold fake/messed with items.

      Thanks,

I thought it may be some stock ribbon, but I'm not familiar with the colours on the ribbon. Are these colours period???
I agree with your final comments. That said, he did remove the Turkish buckle from sale. However, he must have disagreed with the assessment of the helmet and continued on.

      Cheers,

The colors of the ribbon sound like Saxe Weimar. You'd have to show the pattern of the ribbon to identify it exactly.

I agree with Konigtiger, you can find this on many medal bars.

Is that backing material good? I think I saw that felt-like material on some fakes (Vienna or Ohio?), but can't find reference thread... The catch is not the tipical Vienna fake, on the other hand.

I'll take a pic of the MM when I get home.

The backing is fine under black light.

My concern was the ribbon underneath, if didn't match anything period then it's an easy spot for a fake-put together. I just wasn't familiar with the ribbon.

                    Cheers,

                    Jamie.
