Eiserner Halbmond /Gallipoli Star with rare mark

Hey guys!

I'm usually not the one who puts up every piece he can grab for his collection, but as I am seriously thinking about selling this one for new shiny toys I have been offered, I thought I should put this one up for the one or other personal database (feel free to save!) before it might disappear in a collection for years.

The MM is nothing less that "900 SILBER FRIEDR. SEDLATZEK BERLIN", and it took me a few years to grab this one in MM+Version+Condition combination. For those who collect a little "exotic" pieces like me, you know, the cheap german or turkish ones are ugly, just the luxury versions are truely appealing And beside this, as for EKs, it bears the Sedlatzek MM.

Even through I just have my mobile phone cam, it should be enough to spot the clear details.

Looks like the maker beside the 800 got double stamped slightly off register

First of all, the Friedrich Sedlatzek firm was not a maker, only a supplier. So, this was made by someone else for the firm and their name was put on it.

Secondly, why is it so shiny? Has it been on a buffing wheel?

Lastly, I take exception to the remark that "cheap German and Turkish" awards were ugly. These were likely the ones awarded and first worn and thus have their own intrinsic beauty, not to mention historic authenticity.

While certainly very attractive and appealing, and admittedly more sought after by collectors, these enamel ones were nothing more than gaudy private purchase jewelry.

First of all, it's definately a 900 silver content mark and not 800, can't really catch it with my phone. But yes, the Sedlatzek mark is- as many times, a bit blurred which is occasionally due to double stamping

Shiny because was kept in a non-belonging case and sealed from air and temperature. I don't own it for a very long time, so it had no time in my cabinett to develop a nice patina over summer.

This shine is developed for sure by cleaning ,,

even closed in a box and untouched fore years that shine would be gone by now ,,and would have patina ...

nonetheless,,,, a very nice addition to anyone's collection ..

the patina will come back slowly no doubt

As I said, I don't own it for a longer period of time.

If you like it shiny like it was worn back in those days on the breast of a proud soldier, you can keep it like this with minor effort. If you like a nice brown patina, put it in your cabinett and a year later you have a smooth and even brown patina on it's surface. Another year and the brown patina starts to turn Black. Patina regrows. On a shiny piece like this, it will develop equally an will become a patina beauty on it's own, as nice as it is in this shiny condition. Comes down to your preference.

Most important thing is- absolutely perfect condition in combination with rare mark of sedlatzek, plus it's the nicest version of the gallipoli stars that were produced (like KMST for Ek1s for example) but this comes down to personal preference of course.

I love the enemal, the design that is below the enemal, the silver signs put onto the front, the overall shape and its proportions, the beading on the arms and the fine silver content which adssa lot of luxury IMO.

Happy you like it as much as I do! Sad that it will leave, but hey, will hopefully find it's way into equally caring hands when I will put it up for sale

Nicest EH i ever saw. Lets hope the new owner keeps it as safe as the others did over the years. If kept in an an airtight environment patina will not form, ask any coin collector.

Sounds like we have a bet.. What do you say.. I polish up again one of my sweet EK2s.. will put it into my cabinet.. and make a foto every week or two to show patina progress.. Promise not to use anything like eggs or something on this.

IF I loose the the bet and there is no nice patina regroth within a year, I will hand the EK2 over to you as a present.. If you loose the bet.. You owe me an EK2.. Shake hands? Than I will start a threat for that bet
