    Help with Unit ID

Recently picked up a studio photo of a german soldier in a simplified M1910 tunic with the Roman numerals XIV over 24 on the collar. Not sure if this is the 14th division, 24th regiment or something else.

The piping is a dark color and the shoulder straps appear light in color. The soldier is seated in a way that I can not see any of the shoulder strap detail.

    Any help appreciated.

It is the collar insignia of Landsturm-Infanterie-Ersatz-Bataillon Nr.5 later renamed as 2. Landsturm-Infanterie-Ersatz-Bataillon Stockach. Formed on 29 December 1914 under the auspices of XIV. Armee-Korps Home Command.

What would the "24" on the collar represent?

The full name after the renaming was 2. Landsturm-Infanterie-Ersatz-Bataillon Stockach XIV/24. It was the 24th of 42 Landsturm infantry battalions in the XIV.Armeekorps area.

I doubt there is a separate history for a unit of that size. The unit records are in the archives in Karlsruhe. They indicate that it spent most of the war under the jurisdiction of the Gefangenenkommandantur Heuberg. So they were guards and support personnel for the POW camp there.

Some information (in German) on the camp:
