        Glenn,

I don't ever remember seeing this style or mark either. Very interesting. The pin and clasp setup is quite distinctive. The core details look quite low in the photo, is this the case? Rather a matte finish to the core as well.

It's a very attractive cross, I'm sure you're rather fond of it!

And a happy belated birthday by the way!

        Cheers,

        Adam

Adam, cheers for the birthday wishes mate. The core details are quite low on this. Does anyone know of other awards made by Klein?

              Hello,

this is a juweller made EK 1 in silver. The small mark is the master mark of this jeweller and there are a few of them known on EK's.

              Kind regards from Germany

              Walter

That pin and hinge would suggest what? - late 1930s?

                  Never seen....

... that clutzy looking of a catch on any WW1 EK1. The core detail looks very low and indistinct, the paint doesn't look quite right either.
The hinge and pin do look like other examples I have seen that were made in WW2 though.

It looks more like a WW2 early period Schinkelform pin, hinge and catch ?

I have seen a number of EKs with these extra low details, that is not off putting.

At a wild guess I would say inter war

There's just something about it that I can't warm to it. That huge catch just doesn't say 'master jeweller' to me and the toning on the back looks artificial.

There are fake Oakleaves, swords & diamonds on Ebay that have the Klein mark so it can be found on bad items.

Just my gut feeling on it.

I also don't like the catch.

I think you guys may be jumping in to soon here.

sILVER pATINA CAN LOOK REALLY FUNNY; ESPECIALLY IF IT HAS BEEN RECENTLY CLEANED AND DARKENED; THEN LOST SOMEBECAUSE OF HANDLING:

iNTER WAR ekS MAY HAVE VERRY STARANGE HOOKS; CATCHES, SCREWS AND ATTACHMENT SYSTEMS:

i WOULD LIKE TO SEE REALLY GOOD SCANS: THE THINGS POINTED OUT MAY BE A LITTLE STRANGE; BUT NOT ENOUGH TO BASE AN OPINION ON:

tOM YOUNG; IF YOU ARE OUT THERE: DO YOU HAVE AN ALREADY SCANNED LOW RELIEF CROSS TO SHOWß
