A few WWI mementos. Can anyone identify the purpose of the disc with all the flags? The other side is a mirror.

As an Australian I'm always a little disapointed when I see our contribution to WW1 highlighted by the Union Jack. I imagine our Canadian brothers feel the same. That said, I like the medal bar and trench art lighter.

I think I owe you a big thanks.

I saw a Police Disc (I don't collect them, but if I can pick the odd something up at an auction, I do) at a local auction and considered bidding. Then I remembered I had an issue with another Disc a long time back and then quickly referred to your posts on WAF using my tablet/I-pad. A long story short, it was another fake and your insights saved me $$$
So, Thank you Don.

I am glad to know that some of my research on the warrant discs helped you. It is a real minefield but one that holds a lot of interest.

I really doubt that I will part with anything in this handful of items, as I have had them so long and are reminders of my pleasant years living in Germany.

I guess collectors form attachments to certain things. I know I do.

And they also "forgot" Montenegro and Romania, both independent states who saw waaay more action and casulties than Cuba or Siam.

Hi Don,if you give his full name, unit and number, I can look up the service records and give you some more information on him if you want., but i have to warn you that 60% approx of the records were destroyed in WW2.

Hi Don, got a little bit of Info for you.

Private John Jordan West Riding Regiment(The Duke of Wellingtons)

Regimental Number 3/11718.the prefix 3 indicates 3rd reserve battalion.
Enlisted 12th September 1914 aged 38,from Bradford,England,and he was a bricklayers labourer.
Went to France 30th November 1914, most likely as part of a reinforcement draft to the regular 2nd battalion.
Wounded 18th April 1915, G.S.W. right hand and forehead,GSW can indicate gunshot or shrapnel wounds.
Discharged due to sickness 5th April 1916.
Awarded silver war badge numbered 21281.
Was also awarded 3 campaign medals, the 15 star,the British War Medal,
and the Victory M.edal.

found his Service record,He was 5ft 8.5 inchs tall,blue eyes, dark brown hairand weighed 170 lbs with a 40 inch chest, religion was RC.

Next of kin was his brother Michael.67 Wellington Street, Stotts hill, Bradford.

Before Canada got it's current flag we had a read flag with the union jack in the upper corner close to the flag pole and the coat of arms of Canada centered on the opposite end of the flag. I assume Australia and New Zealand had similar type flags
