I feel bad when I see you "F-P" guys posting all this stuff I don't know anything about!

So here, just for you, posted for Ted is a Bavarian Unterleutnant of infantry, wearing his 1866 and 1870 awards. This uniform was dropped in 1872.

Nice array of awards for a joung LT. Do You know more about that guy? I could imagine he ends up 30 years later as General.

Not to worry Rick,

the 1848 pattern Bavarian infantry officers' Achselblätter or Schulterblätter do not give many clues anyway. No cyphers or numbers. The epaulette was constructed in either silver or gold coloured metal depending on button colour with an underlay in the regimental facing colour

Only in 1873 with the introduction of Prussian pattern shoulder boards and straps were the numbers 1 -15 for the line regiments and the crown for the Leib-Regiment introduced.
