Maybe we jumped the gun a bit then if the recess is there.

What is a load of crap though is the bit about prohibited countries. I wrote to ebay once and asked them as I couldn’t find it anywhere in their rules (I didn’t want a ban for doing something that isn’t allowed, like selling to prohibited countries). They told me they had never heard of that rule, it just doesn’t exist. Less potential buyers for him then.

Hi Tony: There are prohibited countries in their rules...if you list an item in the militaria section it will ask you to aquaint yourself with the rules for selling "nazi" items..which ebay does not allow, and it lets you click a link...in that link it says that certain items are not allowed in certain countries where ebay does business...as I recall it was first Germany, then France, then they added Italy..as for writing to ebay..the people that answer the letters are high school kids or something and I get a different answer to the same question everytime I write...all depends who answers the inquiry.

      Hello,

I'll check that out the next time I list something and I do agree that they give different answers to the same questions but, I have had the same answer (below) 3 times, twice from ebay.uk and once from ebay.de on this matter.

      Tony

Here is my reply from ebay:
      Dear Tony,

Thanks for writing to us. I appreciate the opportunity to assist you
with your question about listing prohibited items.

There are no countries prohibited by eBay from buying and selling items.
However, there are some items that we do not allow to be listed on eBay.

Our site has a large and detailed area where you can see which items are
allowed for listing, which aren't, and those that are "questionable" and
should require you to ask our Community Watch team prior to listing.

The page that holds this list can be found here:

      http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/community/png-items.html

As you can see, it is detailed and thorough. You should find the
relevant information regarding your particular item under these pages.

Just browse the titles then click on the relevant one for an
explanation. Take your time to read the information contained therein,
and then the next time you list an item you should be in a position to
do so without fear of the listing being removed.

I suggest you do this in tandem with our Listing Policies. These
policies refer not to specific items but to correct methods of listing
in general and contain very helpful guidelines and hints. This policy is
      held here:

      http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/community/png-list.html

With the information contained in these pages you should be in a
position to list an item on site effectively and within our policy
guidelines. Our suggestion would be to bookmark these links somewhere so
you can refer to them each time you have doubts or concerns as to the
item or description you wish to post.

It was my pleasure to assist you. We appreciate that you choose eBay.

      Best wishes,

      Janelle Lynden

Ok, I went through the listing formality in both Germany and the UK in the militaria section. I wasn't asked to aquaint myself with rules for selling Nazi items.

I then went on ebay.com and there the link was (bugger), just as you mentioned:<!--StartFragment -->
"There are also important restrictions for sellers who sell such items internationally. click here for more information."

It must be a US rule and obviously doesn't affect selling in the UK(?) or Germany. Unfortunately the page wouldn't open for me but I'll check out again it later.

Apart from that, I wouldn't have thought that an Imperial German medal falls under the Nazi item category.

I think you are right...the "banned" countries rule may only apply to the US ebay...and perhaps the British ebay and that in Germany, as well as a French one have different policies. John
