    Michael,

    I can find references to:

    Infanterie-Regiment 23
    Bavarian Infanterie-Regiment 23
    Reserve-Infanterie-Regiment 23
    Bavarian Reserve-Infanterie-Regiment 23
    Landwehr-Infanterie-Regiment 23
    Landsturm-Infanterie-Regiment 23
    and Ersatz-Regiment 23,

but nothing on a reserve Landwehr regiment with that number. Are you sure about the name?

Glenn will almost certainly be able to tell you plenty about the Austro-Hungarian husars. His site at http://austro-hungarian-army.co.uk/ is a good place to look.

Jazygier und Kumanier Husarenregiment Nr. 13

      Mike,

The Jazygier und Kumanier Husarenregiment Wilhelm Kronprinz des Deutschen Reiches und Kronprinz von Preußen Nr. 13 was originally formed on the 10th of September 1859 out of various volunteer Hussar units which had been mobilised for the war of 1859 against France and Piedmont. By the turn of the century the regiment was recruiting predominantly from the Budapest, Temesvár and Keckemét areas of Hungary and was consequently composed of almost entirely Hungarian NCOs and Hussars.

The Crown Prince of Prussia was the third holder of the office of Inhaber or Regimental Proprietor of the regiment having been preceded by General der Cavallerie Friedrich Fürst Liechtenstein from 1861-1885 and Feldmarschalleutnant Theodor Galgóczy de Galántha from 1895-1896. The Crown Prince took up his appointment in May 1900.

At the outbreak of war in 1914 the 13th Hussars were part of the 4th Cavalry Brigade in 4th Corps with the Regimental Headquarters and 2nd Division (3rd and 4th Squadrons) at Székesfehérvár. The 1st Divison (1st and 2nd Squadrons) was based at Tolna.

The regiment continued to spend the war in the 4th Cavalry Brigade as part of the 10th Cavalry Divison serving mainly on the Galician Front. By Spring 1915 it was in Gruppe (Korps) Marschall in General der Kavallerie Freiherr von Pflanzer-Baltin's 7th Army. During early 1916 and the Brussilov Offensive of Summer 1916 it was in Generaloberst Erzherzog Joseph Ferdinand's/Generaloberst Tersztyánszky's 4th Army. By November 1916 the 10th Cavalry Division was in Kavalleriekorps Brudermann as Army Group Reserve of Heeresgruppe Erzherzog Karl. Summer 1917 saw it as part of Gruppe Liposcak still on the Russian Front under Heeresgruppe Erzherzog Joseph. It spent the first part of 1918 in Italy and is shown in the summer as part of the 11th Army still within 10th Cavalry Division. By October it was back in the east on the way to Heeresgruppe Kövess.

      Wartime Commanders:

Oberstleutnant Géza von Tömöry: Aug 14 - Feb 15
Oberst Julius Prónay von Tót-Próna und Blatnicza: Feb 15 - Sep 15
      Oberstleutnant/Oberst Josef Szirmay von Szirma und Szirma-Besenyö: Sep 15 - Jul 18
Oberst August Freiherr von Jordis-Lohausen: Jul 18 - Nov 18

      Regards
      Glenn
