The bronze one is a nice clean example by Wernstein.

The silver one, also by Wernstein, is quite worn and has a rather ugly period repair.

The gold badge was made by Eugen Marcus. It is in nice condition, but has some nasty looking green gunk on it.

Has anyone got any tips for good, non-destructive cleaning methods? Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

        Many thanks in advance,

        David

            Hi Rick,

The images were captured with a digital camera and it must be a trick of the light. Compared to bronze badges, the gold badge really is quite different and has a softer matte finish as you describe.

In an old thread on these badges I read that the pre-war gold badges were made of silver gilt and marked accordingly. This badge doesn't have that mark. Does this definitely make it a post-1918 piece or has anyone got any other information?

Despite the fact that the paperwork for these badges is said to be quite common, I haven't seen any for a while. Has anyone got any to show?

            Thanks in advance,

            David
