    Jasta 12 Casualty List

Does anyone know how I could find a Jasta 12 casualty list for the months of April, May, and June 1917? I believe they lost fourteen pilots during this period and I would like to know their names.

I'm looking for info on a Lt. Schock. He was with Jasta 12 and was apparently shot down by German artillery around 19/5/17.

      Hello,

      You already know this site?

I do now. Thank you. I actually have the postcard mentioned, but, until now, I have not connected the Lt. Schock mentioned by Oskar Muller to Karl Shock. I have found a photo of Oskar Muller, and I have found that Karl Schock had two victories. I wish I could find out more about both of these gentleman, but it is a slow and tedious trek.

According to "Casualties of the German Air Service" there were two Schöck(s). One, Ltn. Karl Schöck was killed 19 May 1917. Vfw. Ludwig Schöck was killed September 6, 1917. There are no listings spelled Schock or Shock.

In the same book, I only count five pilots listed as being from Jasta 12 during that three month period.

Thanks Chip. It's the Ltn. Schock, killed on 19 May, that I'm interested in. He was one of the five. I'm looking for more info on him, and the Adjutant/Tech. officer of Jasta 12 at that time, Oskar Muller.

Here is a photo of Jasta 31, showing the CO, who was the CO of Jasta 12 in May 1917. Oskar Muller, who was the Adjutant/Tech. officer of Jasta 12 during the same period, is also shown. This photo was taken around Sept. 1918.http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...1&d=1375234585

The only other things I can add from this book are that Ltn. Schöck was born on April 12, 1889 at Neuenstadt (Württemberg) and his place of death was listed as Dury (Somme).

In answer to your question , I offer the following for your consideration,

These were the fatalities according to "Das Kriegstagebuch der Jagdstaffel12 "
                      by Michael Schmeelke

April 12, 1917 Ltn. Adolf Schulte (9 victories) killed in mid- air collision with British Fe2d , north of Barelle

April 23, 1917 The Staffelfuhrer and 7 victory ace Hauptmann Paul von Osterroht - killed in combat with Sopwith Pups of Naval 3 near Cambrai at 1800 hrs.

May 1 1917 Ltn. Gerhard Strehl -shot down in flames over Epinoy.
                      Arrived at Jasta 12 - April 28 1917

May19, 1917 Ltn. Karl Shock (2 victories)- killed at 0740 hrs. near Dury-St Quentin by AAfire

June 16 , 1917 Vfw. Robert Riessinger(4 victories) -killed in collision with Nieuport, south of Buissy

From the time of it's creation, until the war's end , the Royal Prussian Jagdstaffel 12 was credited with at least 156 victories including 3 balloons

17 members of this unit died in combat
                      8 wounded
                      1 taken prisoner

I also referenced "The Jasta Pilots " Franks, Bailey, and Duiven.

Here is the feldpost where Oscar Muller, adjutant/tech. officer for Jasta 12, writes a lady friend about the shooting down of Ltn. Schock by friendly fire.http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...1&d=1375635158

                            You are most welcome !

I did some research on Ltn Oskar Mueller

I found he had flown two- seaters since 1915 and came to Jasta 12 in January 1917.

At some point he was declared to be suffering from Kriegsmuedigkeit (war-weariness).

He remained with Jasta 12 as the technical officer. I understand he was also the Technical officer for Jagdgeschwader II (as Jasta 12 was part of this group).

He then went to Jasta 31 from the 3rd of June 1918 until the end of hostilities.

Hope this is of interest to you
