Hi fellas:
I recently picked up a German military spade with leather carrier (with belt loops). It struck me immediately (figuratively speaking!!) that the carrier was a different style than the typical military spade carrier. The leather seems to be leather that was re-worked, in other words, it was once a different leather item, but was re-worked and fashioned into a spade carrier. The leather is VERY similar to that of a couple of sets of ankle gaitors/leggings I had that had be re-worked/fashioned from jackboots.
On the outside face of the carrier are the faint numbers/letters: '21B 1C' (which have vertical lines stamped over top-perhaps in an attempt to 'erase' them).
On the inside of the carrier is the stamp 95 with a crown above it.(actually there are two identical stamps).
I'd appreciate any thoughts on whether this shovel/carrier is WW1 German, WW2 German or....????
