    All,

Take a look at this. The crown is nice and high and detailed, but I can't "look inside" like I would expect to with a round bottom...red flag?

That's quite a strange looking EK. The core paint seems to have made it onto the beading/frame. Could this possibly be a one piece?

Very strange looking....those reverse acorns seem to eminate from rather unusual places on the oak sprig?

              Marshall,

They do seem very odd! Perhaps they are wilting in the heat!

                  Marshall,

To be honest I was worried from the start and here are the technical issues I see (with adds from everyone)

                  1) The crown, while detailed, has no "ring" on the bottom to look into for that 3D effect.
                  2) The acorns are growing from places they should not.
                  3) The black extends way up onto the beading.
                  4) The 4 on the front seems hollow in one spot.
                  5) I just don't like the beding - a little herringbone or is that a shadow on the lower left?

Just a lot of red lights...

I wouldn't dismiss it out of hand, but several things seem rather odd. While the "closed" crown isn't that unusual, it seems rather 2-dimensional. The serifs on the W stand out from the uprights, which I've never seen before, and the sides seem to be closer to 45 degrees from the body than the usual 90. It definitely looks like a 1 piece. On the obverse there seems to be a ridge or line on the frame at the juncture of the right and lower arms, which makes me think "cast". The oakleaves, particularly the horizontal ones, lack detail and, yes, the acorns seem to droop. The arms seem to be "pinched" toward the center.
The more I think about it the more I think I'd pass.
