    1870 EKII - Opinions wanted...

    Hi All,

Here's another 1870 EK2 I've seen. Immediately the overall condition of it started ringing bells but I suppose it could have been "cleaned" recently (reminds of when I went to pick up a grouping only to find the family sitting there polishing the lot - EKs etc - with metal polish - in the hope I'd be more interested in "shiny ones") but also the small "0" and rather small oaks also makes me wonder.

There seems to be a "nub" where the ring attaches to.
To me this one seems to be very much like the 1914 EK2 shape.

I don't suppose anyone has ever looked into the differences in the arm width ratios on EKs? To me, each era of EK has a different ratio between the arm width (on the core) when measured at the arm's base, centre and end.
    Does that make any sense?

    Any opinions on this EK2?

Ummmm... the crown looks a bit like a muffin... is this a "muffin crown" fake by any chance?

This one does nothing for me. I haven't seen them all but I have nothing positive to compare it to.

The proportions suggest a prinzen size EKII. What are the dimensions?

          Tony,

The dimensions are 42.8mm by 42.9mm - apparently the ring is stamped "925". To me it looks like a WW2 period piece - in appearance it is much more like a '39 EK than any imperial cross.

I am wondering something. I look at these photos and all I can really make out is the frame. The core is black and I can see very little detal because they are so dark. Now I know I wear glasses, but how can you discuss this EK without really seeing it. If the problem is on my end, I need to know how to fix this computer to see these dark (on my screen) pictures to make any kind of judgement. Thanks guys! Mike

              Mike,
Try adjusting the contrast and brightness on your screen. I had the same problem for a while but the problem was gone after I got my new (20") monitor.
The pictures aren't the best, but rather the best I could get.

I'm with you, Mike. On my main computer I often have to download images of EKs and lighten them before I can really look at them. The cores are just black spaces! (On the laptop it's not so bad. )

                    Hi all,

This one is most likely (99%) fake. The seller has various Imperial EK's - 1914 pin back and screw back EK1s and various 1914 EK2s and all are identical apart from the date on this one. Even if the seller claimed to have come across "old stock" from somewhere, I'd have trouble believing any of the items were produced prior to 1945.

To me, not Prinzen, not Pranzen, not Dasher not Vixen.
