Rolf Carls on U-124?

Gentlemen,

here is a period photo of U-124´s crew prior to delivery of the boat to England.
I am having some difficulties with the dates and vita of Rolf Carls.
Is it him in the center?
Was he in command when the boat was handed over?
Some sources say he was already discharged at the date.

That is him. He was never discharged. He went into the Reichmarine and then Kriegsmarine where he rose to the rank of GeneralAdmiral and died in 1945.
