Silver Wound Badge / Marked 938?

    Gents,

    is this one worth considering?
Only pics I have for now.
Allegedly, it is a silver piece, marked 938.
I like the "Mimikry" look it has but the source is a little shakey.

    Thanks in advance,
    t.

This is one from the raritaetensammlerclub aka ordensammler.com, right?

If so, the forum search might help...

      You are right indeed, Sherlock.
Will follow your advice but can already smell the outcome.
      Thanks!

Look at the helmet. Obviously a chemically applied patina. Looks more like cammoflage.

My first thought was also chemical patina, so probably a bad badge. Reading who the seller is confirms it in this case. Would love to read the sales speel; sehr nette echt silber VWA mit M18 camo stalhelm? I have to say, the effect is rather nice though!

                Regards

Evaluate the item, not the story and not the seller's reputation!

If you PM/contact me without the courtesy of using your first name, please don't be offended if I politely ignore you!

The 'camo' effect was likely achieved by using what's called crackle medium, a water-soluble compound often used by furniture finishers to get a faux antique finish. The medium is applied over the surface in different directions to create different angled 'cracks'. The fake aging chemical is applied over that. The chemical only goes into the cracks left by the crackle medium. Then the medium is washed away in soapy water leaving the camo pattern.

It's a pretty trippy looking badge. Why anyone would do that is beyond me.

Gentlemen, your opinions are much appreciated.
Attractive but fake patina as I understand.
                    Not one for me cosequently.
The ruined badge itself could be good though?

                        Yes. But, it is artistic.

Well, now that you bring it up.
Maybe, brilliant fakes are an investment - the future KCs?
Seriously, some people are already collecting pw Souvals...
Pw LCTBs are already categorized, I hear.

I know some people collect early repros though personally I don't understand that concept. Early or late, a fake is a fake.

Since Souval made badges during and after the war how does one tell the difference between the two? I have heard some collectors avoid all Souval badges and medals because of the fact they made the same badges post war.
