    Intriguing EK2 for discussion.....

I present this intriguing EK2 to the Imperial experts here for analysis.

I just purchased this cross yesterday at the West Coast Historical Militaria Collector's Show in Pomona, CA. Two things about it immediately caught my attention:

    1) The way the ribbon is sewn to the cross, and
    2) The cross has the same dimensions as a 1939 non-Schinkelform EK2.

Upon closer inspection, the maker mark isn't crystal-clear, but it appears to be a "7". My first thought was, "Could this be a Meybauer manufactured between 1939 and 1945?"

So, thinking it was a TR-era cross, I posted it here:

One respected WAF member so far has posted that it's a "nice early WWI vintage cast iron cored" cross, and I agree with him. But I'm intrigued by the fact that it's the same size as the standard 1939 EK2. I would like to have your opinions on this cross, especially an identification of the manufacturer and also of the period in which it was made.

    Thanks!

The ribbon is flat, and sewn to the suspension ring and eyelet.

A nice and interesting cross. Could you post a photo of maker mark please and if possible close up of corners (around the centre both front and back)
Looks like a early cast core "yes"

A nice cross! I agree this is early WW1 type casted cross (at least core), not TR period piece. The stitching is unofficial of course and you can see many of these unofficial attachments and medal bars; every one is unique, however. I would guess the cross was put on display somewhere, maybe in a frame so the owner utilised the ribbon in a way to be as flat as possible.

I finally was able to use another camera with better close-up capability, to take a photo of the maker's mark....

It looks somewhat like a "7" to me, but it could be something else that was struck off-center. Any ideas?

              I don't see a 7 in that picture .

indeed most likely a struck off-center.

closer pictures needed for a possible identification.

              regards kay
