    Gold wound badges?

    Hello,

I have a question about 2 of my wound badges. I’ve had them both for at least 10 years and one of them came from a well known German dealer.

Is the cut out version original and is the other really gold or did it start out life as a silver badge?

The problem I have with the cut out is that there are partly dark regions close the edges of the laurel on the reverse as if the metal was over heated, but this doesn’t necessarily go right up to the edge. Has anyone seen something like that before?

The rear of the second badge looks more silver than gold to me. What do you think?

Thanks for any comments, good or bad although I would prefer it if you all told me I’m talking crap and that they are both what they appear to be.

          Hi Tony,

For what it's worth, the details on the gold cut-out look crude but the hinge/pin/catch look period. It may be OK but imo it's not an asthetically (sp) pleasing example.

The second badge definitely looks like a heavily worn silver to me. The recesses on the reverse of the badge are always the place to look for the original finish, and it looks like a dulled matt/frosted silver to me.

Evaluate the item, not the story and not the seller's reputation!

If you PM/contact me without the courtesy of using your first name, please don't be offended if I politely ignore you!

            Tony,

your wish is my command: You are talking crap and they are both what they appear to be.

I agree with Mike, its a well worn silver example.

            all the best,
            Gerd

Thanks for the replies Mike & Gerd.

Gerd, I've told you before but I'll tell you again. You really do have a good command of the English language.
