... accepting that combination as anything other than fantasy. KDM's mounted before ultra-rare Prussian Colonial RAO4wX? Austrian Long Service Award for Officers??????? Pretty, but IMO so far removed from reality.....

Oh ye of little imagination. What makes you think the RAO is colonial?

And who can you think of that might have served from 1814 through 1871?

Now I'm really confused.... Why didn't anyone like the Schaumburg-Lippe Military merit medal with sabers for 1870/71 ?????

on Wilhelm's bar above..... it's the last medel.. even though it has been awarded with Sabers..... and on Ernst 1st bar (below).... it also ranks very low (behind the Centennial medal)....... I thought with Ernst that it was just a mess up... but now that I see it one Wilhelms.... hummmmmmm

I always thought that war time awards ranked higher on the food chain....

Any thoughts ??

Good detective work MrAvery, Wilhelm the Great did indeed set his own standard and who was to question it! I posted a pic of this bar sometime back on the forum. Marcus, I guess the Schm. Lip. mit S. was not very valued by the boys of the time given your Ernst experience.

If they weren't "real" valor awards, but courtesy awards to royals, they might not have been treated as true military awards.

The bar has an interesting combination of Prinzen and regular-sized awards.

As Mark noted, that EK2 is pretty different.

Hey Dave,

It's my understanding that they were for combat action... and that only 583 were awarded (with sabers in 1870).. They then also awarded them in 14-18 but this time with crossed swords (not sabers).....
