    Imperial Awards Display

    Gents,

Took in the wonderful Burg Hohenzollern in Germany during my recent trip. They do not allow photos, but I snuck these. Because they were rushed they are not of optimal quality, but my 5MP camera makes great blow-ups of them, so if you want to see anything closer, just let me know and I will post it.

The first pic is not an award, but I think it is just killer!

    Regards,
    Marc

I'd be interested in seeing a blow-up of this bit, if you can manage it..

      regards

Not a problem - I will take care of it when I get home tonight.

I've been there on several occasions. Viewing the medals comes at the end of the tour in the treasury. There's a great story about one of the PLM hanging there, but I can't remember the details. Another great collection is in Hohenschwangau Castle in Fuessen, BAvaria (Site of the famous Neuschwanstein Castle) Shouldn't be missed.

Burg Hohenzollern in Hechingen has great medals and the Schloss Hohenzollern in Sigmaringen has a nice display of Princely Hohenzollern medals. You have to look or you'll miss em.

Interested in candid/private Hitler, KIA, and Holocaust photos. Also any AH related memorabilia--silverware, linen, crystal, china...
                All the best,

                  Fantastic Marc

The GC sets are phenominal, were you able to see how the stars were affixed to the sash??

I regret not seeing but one museum and castle when stationed in Germany...this inspires me to go back and do it right.

                  Thanks
                  Tony

                    Tony,
Sorry - no. I was trying to get these shots while the tour guide was showing the crown to the crowd. I could not use flash as that would be a give-away. Too bad they do not let folks take pics. Even without a flash I could have set up on a tripod and gotten much better results. Have you seen my Lichtenstein post?

Your right about the Schloss Hohenzollern in Sigmaringen display. We were there in July and the display is very small and really does not have a lot of medals in it. The weapons display at the end of the tour is wonderful and was told one of the best in Germany. Worth the time and trip if ya have the time. Mike
