Nice cross and early oaks, Greg. Does the cross have a Type A Wagner core?

Trying to learn the different core types.

              Thanks Greg,

I really like those early oaks. I looked for a set of oaks at a good price for my new 1870 at the SOS this year and didn't see one set of oaks like yours. They must be very scarce.

It's easier to find a 1870 with the oaks already attached
than it is to find just a loose set.

Yes, I found this out when I stumbled onto a set...$550.00, unused! He came down to $350.00 which was still 700% higher than what they were worth. I've decided to leave my Type A-cored 1870 EKII without oaks and look for a Type B-cored EKII with oaks, if that makes sense.

                    Personally,

I am not a fan of adding a spange to a cross that
did not already have one. To me, it somehow changes
the history of the piece. Kind of like polishing a cross--
                    I just won't do it.

$550 of a set of oaks is absolutely nuts. You can buy
a good 1870 with oaks for that kind of money. I have
a loose set that I found at a military show in St. Paul
about 5 years ago. I paid $60 for them.

We think along the same line. I like it just as it was issued to the soldier.
