I just picked this up on eBay.
at a very good price I might add, bidding on the premise that if it's too good to be true it probably is. Now that it's here, though, I'm not sure, and I definitely don't want to strip off original markings. The paint looks well aged, although there's some light orange overpainting on the white that could have been done to simulate age. The only smell is "old". The leather of the liner is smooth enough that the paint couldn't have been "oven aged", and is definitely original and never removed. Still, I'm going to consider it a modern "embellishment" unless someone can come up with some photographic evidence to the contrary.
