    WW1 German Pilots

    Gents,

buttons have crowns, shoulder boards most likely have a 1 under a winged propeller.
Any ideas on the depicted men?
    Any known faces with names?

    Thanks very much,
    taube.

    Taube,

Very interesting photo. I especially like all the different flight goggles these aviators are wearing. It illustrates how much of an Imperial German, and all WWI aviators, flying gear was privately purchased and non-standardized. I think that makes it much more interesting to collect. As for the men in the photograph I do not know anyone's identity. A very nice photo though.

You are right, the googles are a wild mix.
I was infromed that the unit is probably a Fliegerersatzabteilung.
The man in the middle should be a teacher and was not an army member.
Would be interesting to know if any of his pupils became an ace.

It could be a group of trainees too. I think that model plane was used a lot for flight instruction.
