    Pillowback EKI

I wanted to get some quick opinions on this one, I don't like it much myself, but wanted to ask:

Except for the crude soldering and ugly piece of scrap metal used to replace the catch, I don't see anything wrong with it. What is there about it that bothers you?

The pin and catch just look suspect to me, maybe it is just the way I am looking at it.

Can we see the reverse of the screwback cross itself, without the backing plate?

The screwback has 2 of the 4 bolts snapped off.

Lance brought up a good point. It does look like there were four posts on the EK1, which is wierd.

P.S. The pin on the Wagner-style pin back is atypical of their production methods. IMO.

P.P.S. The assembly of pin and hinge is atypical of pillowback style crosses.

Sorry to be such a wet blanket.

These are 'Bastler' crosses. Really well done, though!

                          Hi Eric,

A 4 bolt cross is usually described as a Calvary special (if memory serves?). I think it's just hype... too bad about the pillowback. I wonder how hard it would be to remove the solder off without damaging the underlying finish? I suppose it could be a period repair of course.

                            Hiya Lance,

I didn't realize that the Kurassier versions had four bolts. But then again, I've never seen one. One more example to look out for, I guess.

Yeah, the other crosses could certainly be period repairs, but I always get sceptical when shown a lump of them in one big lot by the same vendor.

Just my own personal paranoia, mind you.

the pin on the Wagner style pice belongs on the pillow-back. The pin on the pillow-back belongs to a Meybauer or Godet-style piece.
