Edit: Found him in the 1926 Ehren-Rangliste. Leutnant Lindenberg of Fußartillerie Regiment von Hindersin (1. Pommerisches) Nr. 2. Killed in action 21.5.1916 at Beaumont (Verdun) while serving with Reserve Fußartillerie Regiment (Badisches) Nr. 14.

Robert Lindenberg was born on 11 July 1894 in Herzfelde, Landkreis Templin, Brandenburg. He was commissioned a Leutnant on 6 August 1914 in Fußartillerie-Regiment von Hindersin (1. Pommersches) Nr. 2. He was killed in action on 21 May 1916 as a Leutnant on the staff of the III.Btl., Reserve-Fußartillerie-Regiment Nr. 14, so probably a batallion adjutant.

Man, I really have to know where you get your sources Dave. My meager research is a poor showing compared to the master.

In Lindenberg's case, it was fortuitous.

His commission was gazetted in the Militär-Wochenblatt. His birthplace and specific unit were in the WW1 casualty lists available on Ancestry.com.

The really helpful source was the Baden archives. Their online Findbuch includes a list of all the personnel files they have for members of Baden units, with full names and birthdates/birthplaces. They have him mistakenly listed as a Lt.d.R., rather than a regular Lt., but otherwise the name, birthplace and death date matched the information from the Ehrenrangliste and casualty lists.

Thank you Saschaw, I was lucky on this one.

By the way does anyone know if the award record of Robert Lindenberg exist?

Is that Findbuch on the Landesarchiv Baden-Württemberg website?

                        Thanks,

Yes, somewhere. I can't remember how I found it, as their system isn't easy to navigate. I think I was Googling specific names, and it came up in the hits.
