Guys,
I recently found this watch and was told it was used by WWI German aviators as a cockpit watch. The watch itself is marked "EIGENTUM DER FLIEGERTRUPPEN" which translates...PROPERTY OF FLIGHT TROOPS. The watch is maker marked "F.W.KREIS BERLIN W." The outer dial is numbered starting at the 12 o clock position 60, 5, 10, 15, 20, etc...The inner dial is numbered starting at the 12 o clock position 30, 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, etc...I don't know why the watch dial is numbered like this? The reverse of the watch is marked with "winged propellers" with the letters F Z L around it. I have seen these "winged propellers" insignia associated with german aviation items to include shoulder boards.
Does any one know anything about this watch? Is it a genuine WWI Imperial German aviation item? Why are the dials numbered like this? What was it used for?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
