    ek 1870 question crown ,dots

A new member called titas surprised me with an question

he bought a 1870 Iron cross from me and noticed
( if I understand it correctly)

that the dots in the crown of the cross are larger in size as other example he knew

he ask me to ask in a thread about it as he did not find specific info about these differences so far .

first the picture he's showed me .

and some picture of the cross in person

    thanks in advance ,kay

well i believe in that there are maybe More then one master peace
of the core, used fore the sand mould to make these 1870 a type crosses.

and the metal moulding technique itself provides already enough differences ,

but lets see what other have to bring in .

        and welcome titas

Is this the first time you noticed that?

I've seen this on several 1870s posted. I do not recall any
          discussion concerning them.----maybe it's time.

I agree it would be interesting to catalogue and discuss the minute variations of the 1870 Type A core. I am not troubled by these kind of small variations in a general sense, because of how the cores were cast, just as Kay suggested earlier. Doesn't mean we don't have to stay vigilant and skeptical. This thread has some information and opinions on a similar subject, but with regard to the 1813 series.

To start the investigation I will show my two Type A crowns. On the left is one in a Godet frame, on the right a Wagner frame. Both are of the 11 jewel variety and both I know to be authentic period pieces.

                    interesting

                    interesting note

                    titas told me :

I looked in many European and Russian forums. to pictures of the same
EK2(crown with large dots), and found only 2 pictures.
you can put it in to the discussion... 98% of pictures with EK2 type A- crown have small dots, and only 2- crowns have large dots. Maybe this cross is much more rare than "standard" type A?
I started looking on this forum ,, only to discover,
it is indeed throe that the bigger dots are hard to find .

                    , I saw 3 crown types.

                    1 with faded dots , 1 with 11 dots and 1 with 9 dots ?

                    regards kay
