Here's an EKI screwback, obviously a conversion from pinback. I've always considered this square a location mark for the catch, but maybe not.

Actually,Tom,

your conversion looks more like a H.B.G. or K.A.G. cross to me. The core details seem to make a better match rather than a square marked cross. Also, the H.B.G. crosses had the catch highly positioned.

Here's a pic for comparison. The catch on this one is placed very high, but I've seen them placed at right about where your mark is located...
