Gentlemen,
through a trade I obtained this neat compass.
The box has a strap on the back and can be worn on a belt.
According to compassmuseum.com (pic#5 borrowed from there), it is an artillery compass.
Others have stated it was used on balloons and could be hung on a rope by means of the two foldable hooks.
Does anybody of you have evidence of its actual use?
I am thinking of period photos, manuals, Dienstanweisung...
