Not sure what you mean by "Mothers Cross". This medal was awarded to wives or next of kin in memory of their WWI German son or husband who died during WWI. Also there are two different award documents for this medal. One for wives and one for next of kin or parents

Well, he calls it Mothers' cross because it was awarded to mothers of KIA soldiers.

By the way, while many think it was, it was not awarded to the children that lost their fathers!

            Docs for this medal

Two exemples for the docs belonging to this kind of "Hindenburg"-cross.

            Kind regards, Peter

Nice cross Ron and nice documents, Peter. If I understand correctly, according to the first document, both parents got one cross? Or they got one document and two crosses?

                Hi!
As far as I know only ONE doc was given to parents, but I don't know about the crosses.

                Kind regards, Peter

If the soldier was married would both his wife and his parents get award documents?

Here is the text of the regulation from 13 July 1934 dealing with the conditions awarding the Ehrenkreuz:

Thanks for the link, Gerdan, although the regulation doesn't answer my question directly. It's only said in paragraph 5 that the recipient of the cross gets a certificate. No specific about the parents, except they are menitoned in 1.st paragraph.

                        I'm sure, this was possible!

Next question... did the next of kin have to apply for the cross/document or were they automatically sent them?

As far as I know, everybody had to apply for these crosses to get one.

                            Kind regards, Peter
