Why wasn't this Officer awarded a Zentenarmedaille?

    Why wasn't this Officer awarded a Zentenarmedaille?

    This is part of a grouping that recently arrived,and I am curious as to why he wasn't awarded a Zentenarmedaille .I feel certain the answer is in front of my face yet I am somehow missing it
    If I am reading the documents correctly he entered the Army in 1886,and retired as a Major in 1922. He was awarded The LDA2,LDA1, EK2 , War Help Medal during his service and in 1935 was awarded the Front Fighters Cross
    Here are scans of a couple of documents that came with the grouping that detail his service as well as his awards( the documents for his EK, Front Fighters Cross and War Help medal came with the grouping as well) If close ups of the documents are needed please let me know

    Any help will be most appreciated!

    The Centenarmedaille was only awarded to soldiers on ACTIVE service on march 22 1897 and to ex-servicemen who participated in the wars of 1848/49 , 1864 , 1866 or 1870/71.

    Would you show more of the grouping?

    Your man was an Einjährig-Freiwilliger (One-Year-Volunteer) and released from active service in 1887 and was a reserve officer.

      THANK YOU! I was under the impression that both Landwehr and Dienstplicht got the medal. Thank you for educating me ,much appreciated

      Here are the other documents that came with the grouping,sadly the Long Service Urkunden weren't included. The medals are unmounted and if you are interested let me know and I'll scan them

          Nice documents! Those early EK citations are great! The Antrag for the Ehrenkreuz für Frontkämpfer is also seldom seen!! I like the combination of a combat EK2 and a Verdienstkreuz für Kriegshilfe for merit on the homefront!

              Hi Scott

              One thing you may not have noticed is that the Ehrenkreuz für Frontkampfer doc is dated on Hitler's birthday. I don't know if this was intentional or not. But, I have been told that it was done as a a special honour. However, this may be one of those collecting urban legends. I do know that when I had this group, a guy wanted to buy just this document because of the date. Needless-to-say, I politely told him to stuff it.

                I'm glad he didnt get the grouping Brian, I really like it

                I did notice the date on the Urkunde ,but didnt want to draw attention to it as I am much more interested in Pastor Englebrecht .

                I was reading about Einjährig-Freiwilligers the other day before the grouping came in and the book stated that most were from failry high standing families and that until joining the army ahd never come into contact with the lower class. I an only imagine a pastors reaction to such contact

                  Being a pastor meant he was probably a Lutheran, a member of the upper middle-class intelligentsia and likely not a fan of Hitler's, as Der Führer's fan-base was in the Catholic south. Hitler was an ne'er -do-well, 3rd-rate artist, Austrian peasant, although admittedly a war hero of sorts, who happened to be in the right place at the right time while being a snitch for the army. He was someone too low and rough for the likes of Pastor Englebrecht. I doubt the pastor would have bothered with such a person, under normal circumstances. So, the birthday issue date might have actually annoyed him.

                    Your guy was pastor in Flemmingen and he also founded a christian association there helping each other in situations of death:

                    "Gottfried Engelbrecht war hier Pfarrer von 1927 bis zu seinem Tod im Jahre 1942. 1929 gründete er den Verein "Hilfe am Grabe des Pfarrsprengels Flemmingen - Altenburg" , ein Verein zur gegenseitigen Hilfe in Sterbefällen, der im Gründungsjahr schon 223 Mitglieder zählte. "
