Nice score Joe, I had my haul turn up in time to use them as Christmas tree decorations.....Noticed some nice period safty pins still attached to some ribbons "thats always a bonus" Now all you have to do is see if your missing any makers...Again well done

No offense. But, this is one of the ugliest medals ever designed in Germany and in my mind remains largely worthless after all these years. It's a medal that screws up the look of otherwise nice groups.

The only reason to collect them is perhaps the different makers' marks. But, that seems a dubious reason, at best.

But, I guess to each to his own.

Nice lot! Why not if the price was right. All put in one display case will look pretty unique. I just picked up a single parade mount with swords just to have that type of mount. The maker looks like O & B. These things seem to multiply in your collection without you even knowing.

I don't think think this medal is that ugly, but let's face it, it's pretty common, not anything special in it's construction and has never really been a big collectable. It does appear on many medal bars with much nicer medals, which many people don't appreciate. They do come stamped with a variety of maker marks however, which could be a reason to try and collect them.

Any rare or hard to find makers out there?

                    Hindenburg Crosses

                    Hello,
I am also one that does not like this medal, although I have 8 or so on medal bars (which does wreck the look in my opinion).

That being said, there are some rare ones out there. If you can find non-magnetic ones; those fetch a pretty good price.

Joe-does your magnet stick to all of them?

                    Regards,
                    Jody

                      it maybe alot

well it maybe alot of ugly medals to some, but to me they are a great part of history and a very easy medal to collect.
not to many fakers are made of these. but i do get some new made ribbons on them once and awhile. but what do you expect for a medal that was given out prior to ww2.
so far i have 45 diff makers some are same but with diff setups on sigle bars, some with field made setups. just a great and cheap collection.

and who knows when the 100yr ann of ww1 rolls around in 2014 these may increase in price as more people start to collect ww1 memorblia.

                      just my 2 cents
                      thxs for the comments

I agree, gives collectors on a budget something to collect. The hobby is for all types of incomes!

I disagree. This medal put case closed to all those other veterans medals that made every private look like a general. It was also the officially sanctioned commemorative for the Great War.

                              Hello,
I used to but I cannot find the picture. Get a magnet out and test each one of them. I have seen non-magnet examples go for over $150.

Good luck and I hope you find a couple.

                              Regards,
