Photo Taking Help Needed

This may not be the place for this but don't know where else to ask this.
How does one take such clear sharp photos of medals and badges? I have tried using macro with a tripod and using the timer function to prevent camera shake. I have two digital camers one is a Fuji FinepixJ15fd 8.2 mega pixel and the other is Canon PowerShot A2300 16 megapixel camera. I have even tried scanning medals etc with my Brother printer/scanner/fax unit. Any help would be greatly appreciated

I believe both of those two cameras require a specific macro lens to shoot close-ups with. So, set your camera(s) on auto focus, set the badge or medal back about two feet or more and take the shot. I'd opt for the higher megapixel camera for this method. My wife bought a new Canon with 16 megapixel and this method works quite well.
