Help with 1870 and 1914 medal bars....

I'm not a Medal Bar boy, but I'd be interested in your thoughts on these bars offered by a collector.....

    First...

I've never seen these 'Flanders bars' before, (Cladio Ortelli has one on a KVK, so I'm presuming that's the correct mounting, not on the EK2... but I don't know)

    And second.....

an 1870 (baden) bar to a Doctor....

    Regards

    Marshall....

... I see no obvious problems with either of these bars. The clasp on the EK2 is not official, but it was done.....

its not a flandern cross clasp - its one of the kyffhäusser clasps.

Shouldn't a doctor have the non combatants Iron Cross ribon?

Does anyone know the cross next to the EK in the first photo?

The 1870 bar shown in this thread has to be a VERY rare combo. Isn't this a bar to a nurse, not a doctor due to the Baden Nurse's Cross of 1870/71? If that's the case, this is a nurse who was awarded the steel KDM with noncombatant ribbon (usually for stay at home doctors and nurses) but received a combatant EK2 for bravery under enemy fire. I can't imagine there were too many combatant EK2 winners among Baden nurses who served in the Franco-Prussian war.

                Nice bars!!!!

The upper one is a typical veterans odd to wear 2 old long service awards as it came up to wear 2 of the new Wehrmacht awards together. The clasp originally from the Kyffhäuser medal was banned after 1934 but odd things happened.

                The 1870 one....niiiiice combo!
Brian, the Baden cross was not reserved for nurses!
The 1870 war medal was also an odd thing. The Steel medal on combatants ribbon was for stay-at-homes, the steel medal on non-com-ribbon was for docs like this even under fire.

                Best regards

                  Daniel-

                  Great information. Thank you.

A nice, rare set, even to a doctor (as opposed to a nurse).
